You’ll start your journey from Arusha, with a short transfer to Arusha National Park. After registering at the Momella Gate, you’ll meet your guide and armed ranger, required due to wildlife presence. The trek begins through open grasslands and dense forest, with a chance to spot giraffes, buffalo, zebras, and monkeys.
As you ascend gradually, you’ll pass through fig trees, waterfalls, and bamboo groves before reaching Miriakamba Hut, nestled in a forest clearing. Enjoy a hot meal and settle into your cozy wooden hut for the night.
After breakfast, the trail leads up steeply through montane forest into moorland terrain. This stretch offers panoramic views of the Meru Crater and Ash Cone. You may encounter colobus monkeys, turacos, and a range of highland bird species.
Arrive at Saddle Hut, located below Little Meru Peak, in the afternoon. After a short rest, take an optional acclimatization hike to Little Meru (3,820 m) for sunset views. Dinner and an early rest before summit night.
We wake up just after midnight for a hot drink and light meal to fuel our final ascent. The summit climb to Socialist Peak is steep, demanding both physical and mental strength. You’ll navigate narrow ridges, rocky slopes, and gravel switchbacks under the stars, guided by headlamp and the encouragement of your mountain crew.
Reaching the summit by sunrise, you’re rewarded with sweeping views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the Meru Crater, and the spectacular Ash Cone. If you’re lucky, you might spot mountain reedbucks or agile klipspringers darting across the rocky ridges.
After soaking in the moment, we descend back to Saddle Hut for a short rest and brunch, then continue all the way down past Miriakamba to Momella Gate. You’ll receive a certificate of achievement and be transferred back to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi.
After breakfast, depending on your flight schedule, you can explore Arusha town or relax at the hotel. You will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure.
