Overview of the Umbwe Route

The Marangu Route, commonly known as the “Coca-Cola Route,” is the only Kilimanjaro trekking path that provides hut accommodations rather than tents, offering a more comfortable experience for climbers. This 5-day trek follows a direct ascent with a relatively gradual trail, making it a favored choice for those seeking a well-established and structured climb. However, the shorter duration means there is less time for acclimatization, making it essential for trekkers to pace themselves carefully.

The route passes through diverse landscapes, starting with the lush rainforest, where towering trees and vibrant wildlife create a magical atmosphere. As you ascend, the terrain transitions into the moorland zone, characterized by unique vegetation and rolling hills. Higher up, the stark and dramatic alpine desert offers breathtaking views of the mountain’s rugged beauty.

Upon reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa, climbers are rewarded with unparalleled panoramic views. The Marangu Route remains a popular choice for those looking for a classic, scenic, and well-supported Kilimanjaro adventure.

Why Choose this Route

Hut Accommodations

Unlike other Kilimanjaro routes, Marangu offers hut accommodations, providing more comfort and shelter from harsh weather conditions.

Scenic Landscapes

From lush rainforests to the stark beauty of the alpine desert, Marangu provides a diverse trekking experience.

Direct & Gradual Trail

This is the only route that allows for a direct ascent and descent on the same path, making navigation easier for climbers.

Shorter Duration

Perfect for trekkers who have limited time but still want to experience Kilimanjaro’s beauty and reach the summit.
